Gothid's World
Standing over 1 million cubits tall, Gothid tower looms over Urth.
Nothing can destroy the tower. That's like trying to sink a continent into the ocean with a sword. Forests, valleys, canyons, and kingdoms sit on it. We don't know a whole lot about the Old Empire who made it, but they must have been very powerful. GothId Tower has all the Old Empire's artifacts. Revolvers, crystal ball tapeplayers, vehicles that can bore through the urth in 30 minutes faster than 300 serfs toiling for 5 years.
There are a lot of kinds of animals. It's said the Old Empire brought every kind of animal in creation -- all of creation -- together. Some have scales, others breathe fire. While many walk on two legs, some slither. The demons of Gothid Tower scatter out to mutate the world, creating new species of animal and plant over time.
Demons emerge from the tower when people dream intensely about something -- especially in groups. This is why cults grow so powerful, and why their conventions can be so dangerous. Cults travel around the world, gathering in conventions. Some are quiet; some have music loud enough to destroy grand cities when they walk around them hundreds of times. All cults are trying to create zeal.
It's said that the faces who appeared in the sky demanded a Tormentor sit at the top of Gothid Tower. This is required so that all peoples of creation speak the tongue that all things speak. The Tormentor changes every few centuries, to bring in a new era. The current Tormentor was once a bard who now releases music to the world on crystal ball tapes of his own creation. His cult's parties can destroy cities with sound alone.
When you mix with demons, you mutate. We all have, that's why we all look so different. Most people will let a few demons lay host to them, but the strongest ones require more permission for more transformation, yet grant the greatest rewards for this intrusion. Host too many demons, and you may become a grotesque, mutated beyond recognition.
The practice of zeal goes back to the Old Empire times too. When you dream of something, you create a dark and light version of it. When you begin to stir these together, you create zeal. You can't stir zeal by yourself, you need an idol. An idea that takes it there. That idea is not really useful until you use it a lot, and really, it only supplements other activities.
Nobody knows exactly how new artifacts get made. However, some frightened whispers talk of Meathaus the eternal fire under boiling oceans beneath Gothid Tower where souls become artifacts and meat. One can only hope it is but a rumor.
